Assuming the dress is clean, but creased, iron it inside out with what in the olden days was called a ‘pressing cloth’. That’s really just a scrap of fabric (usually cotton) dampened and wrung out. Be sure to use the iron setting to satin or another low temperature. You could also place an old towel on the ironing board under the fabric to lessen the possibility of ironing marks.
Never iron on the right side, since ironing marks will show, drastically affecting the sheen of the fabric – permanently.
